Difference between Fit or Suit

 A lot of words in English vocabulary are used in similar situations but with different meanings that can lead to confusion.

Fit and suit are both commonly used when referring to wearing clothes.

 

Suit refers to whether the clothes look good on you or go well with other things you are wearing or carrying

  • – That eyeliner suits you perfectly and really highlights your beautiful eyes.
  • – Stripes don’t suit me, they make me look too tall and thin.

 

Fit refers to whether clothes are the right size

  • – I’ve put on quite a bit of weight and my shorts don’t fit me anymore.
  • – These trousers fit well round the waist but they are too long.
